Update on House Progress

We are scrambling as quickly as we can to get at least a portion of the house livable, as our temporary housing will soon come to an end.

We've got nearly all the electrical wiring replaced, the broken windows have been replaced, most of the damaged plumbing has been fixed or capped off.

Some structural issues still remain, such as replacing the bathroom subfloor and joists, and repairing some of the burnt out walls.

Things remaining left to do are: insulation, drywall, paint, installing some flooring and the bathroom components, installing lighting throughout. On the outside of the house, I believe we are only lacking getting the damaged siding replaced. And a lot of cleanup!

Rebuilt and Completed Roof

Our wonderful Amish neighbors did a fantastic job of tearing off and rebuilding the roof. Altogether it took just a week to get from start to dry-in.

Once it was dried in, the roofing crew at Husong Roofing came in and laid the shingles. It looks amazing!

Roof Rebuild Has Begun!

Our wonderful Amish neighbors began rebuilding our roof last week. I was most nervous about that upper roof, since it was so high up there, and the pitch was 12:12. But they managed just fine and had it tore down and rebuilt in just 2 days.

The upper roof is now dried in, awaiting beautiful new shingles. Hopefully it won't take too long to do the other two roofs and then we can really start getting busy on the inside!

Repurposed Roof for Horsebarn!

This was a major project that's been on the top of our priority list for a long time. The old shingle roof was so bad and even the underlying plywood, that the entire roof had to be ripped off.

"Before"

Measuring all of our used metal we got off the milkbarn (greenhouse) roof.

Removing the old roof.

It looked so different without a roof!

Handy Husband, goofing off. :)

Half way done!

The new fascia boards look great!

We had saved all the metal we'd taken off the old milkbarn (now the Greenhouse), and only had to buy a few extra pieces to have enough metal for the whole roof. It turned out great! It's such a relief to not have to worry about that anymore!

Gutters: the Finishing Touch

The guttering company came out first thing this morning and installed our guttering system. It looks great and I can't wait for our next rain so I can see them in action!

New Roof, Day 3 (FINAL DAY!)

By noon, only the front and back porches were left to be shingled.

By 5:30, the entire roof was DONE!

I am so happy with the new roof! It looks beautiful!

New Roof, Day 2

Another day of great progress!
The entire east side of the upper roof and the addition roof are done.

Didn't take long to tear off the west side of the upper roof and re-deck it.

The attic room/kitchen roof is stripped and ready for decking. Some leaky spots will require a little bit of repair work- but it's not drastic.

This was the corner that had the big "hole" in it. It is now completely repaired and looks great!

Soffit vents were put into the 70's addition (game room/master bedroom area).

The entire south side of the "attic room/kitchen" roof is shingled now, and they've begun to install the plastic sheeting over the decking on the back of the upper roof.

Not quite half-way done with the shingles on the north side of the attic room/kitchen roof. They will probably have this section done by the time they quit working today. I can't believe how fast they work!

Check out Day 3 for more updates!
