First Snow!
Once again, the weathermen just didn't get it right. Mother Nature totally surprised us today with a nice little snow. There isn't much out there, but it certainly is pretty.

An Evening with the Horses
Having some mild back pains late yesterday afternoon, I decided a stroll around the pasture would be nice. It was a beautiful evening and my companions made it even better. They followed me around the pasture, and everytime I'd stop they'd come up for a scratch and to thoroughly sniff out any treats I may have hidden on me. It wasn't long before they spotted the girls come out of the house and head to the barn to prepare the horses' evening meal. They immediately abandoned me and ran off to eat.
Here are just a few of the pictures I took during my walk.

All the Pretty Horses
I know it's been a while since I posted anything new about the horses. Well, tonight at feeding-time I took the camera out with me. The lighting was beautiful, and the subjects make it awfully easy to take too many pictures. Here are just a few:
Here they are, waiting for me at the gate. They see me come out of the house, and come to the gate
whether it's feeding time or not, always hoping for treats, or attention, or both.
Zander is always the first one to greet me. He's also the first to get fed. He's the alpha horse in this 2-horse herd. And that explains why he's also the fattest.
The sky was lovely, with the soft hues of the oncoming sunset and the little moon, high up in the sky.
The horses' attention was drawn by the neighbors Paint mare, who had escaped her pasture to come and visit us on the other side of our fence. Right after I took the above two pictures, Zander and Zorro took off running to greet her....
and then they promptly turned back and came running for their food.
These guys just don't miss any meals.
Here they are, happily eating away, while the chickens circle like vultures, waiting for any morsel to drop to the ground. They usually end up pretty disappointed, as the horses do a good job of cleaning their plates.

Equine Arrival!
Yesterday was one of the most physically exhausting days I've had in a while. I went to a friend's farm in the morning to watch her do her horse chores, so that I'd be able to do them for her when she's out of town. It was fun visiting with her and seeing all her beautiful horses, but all the walking and feeding about wore me out.
Then, in the afternoon, my parents and sister came out to our house, with a special delivery for me...
Zander and Zorro!
Unfortunately, we made the mistake of releasing them out into the pasture, where they enjoyed eating belly-high grass. I say unfortunately because, as it turned out, we spent 4 hours trying to catch them again to lock them up in their pen. Being overweight that they are, over-eating can be very dangerous for them, so they HAD to be brought in.
Thanks to the help of my sister's ingenious plan, and my Handy Husband's quick sprinting-through-tall-grass ability, and to my daughters' helping hands, we finally got them "herded" into an enclosed area where they quite willingly allowed us to halter them and lead them to their pen. They were exhausted and sweaty from all the excitement. And so were we!
We all felt a huge sigh of relief when they were locked away safe and sound in their pen, where they were lavished with treats and pettings. It made all the stress and frustration worthwhile.
